  1. I am glad you are beginning by checking to see if teachers know what steps to take prior to writing a referral. We find that many parents would appreciate the opportunity to help correct their child's behavior before the misbehavior becomes a matter of permanent record.

    I also like that you are going to use student work to ascertain whether or not their grades suffered during the time they were out of class. Teachers send work to ISS and home during suspensions. However, we know that nothing can replace the value of actual instructional time with the teacher. Connecting the dots in these areas should provide a wealth of insight into this issue and produce viable solutions, as well.

    Ultimately, it seems that you have begun with the end in mind. Checking for knowledge of the ascribed discipline plan, then directly correlating it to classroom absences / student grades.....checkmate!
